  Man and woman dead in Croydon fire that tore through house TWO people have died in a house fire in London.London Fire Brigade said today: "Two people sadly died in a house fire in Addiscombe (east Croydon) last night.

The British Transport Police (BTP) has confirmed that a person has died after they were hit by a train in South London.

The tragic incident, which unfolded after midday on Thursday (January 13), led to a multi-agency emergency response with officers and paramedics from London Ambulance Service (LAS) rushing to the scene.

Witnesses also reported seeing a helicopter from London's Air Ambulance hovering above Raynes Park Station in Wimbledon, Merton.

BTP confirmed their officers were called to the station at 12.25pm after reports of a casualty on the tracks, however despite the best efforts of the medical teams at the scene BTP sadly confirmed that a person died.

In a statement from BTP, a spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Raynes Park station at 12.25pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

South Western Railway, which operates on the line, was forced to cancel services between Surbiton and Wimbledon while emergency services were on the tracks.

National Rail confirmed that the line was now open but passengers could face disruptions until 5.30pm.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway, said: “We’re sorry that due to emergency services dealing with an incident, our services between Wimbledon and Surbiton may be subject to delays and cancellations.

“Whilst all lines have now reopened, we currently expect disruption to last until at least 5.30pm."
