Under the laws (IPC and CrPC), the police are duty bound to arrest a person who has been charged with rape and a case registered against him. In cases of rape, arrest of the accused is required by law in order to stop him from influencing or threatening the victim.

The BJP has accepted the resignation of two Jammu and Kashmir ministers who participated in a rally in support of the accused of Kathua gangrape case. BJP ministers Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga tendered their resignations yesterday.

Two BJP ministers Choudhary Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga on Friday submitted their resignations , party general secretary Ashok Koul told Outlook. Koul said they have submitted the resigations to the party president Sat Sharma.

The rape and murder of the eight-year-old girl in Kathua is so gut wrenching, not only because she was drugged, gang - raped and had her head smashed in, but also because politicians, ministers of the BJP , leaders of even the Congress party , were backing the men who did this to her.

The chief minister apprised them of the situation and requested them for their intervention to defuse the political crisis brewing in the state over the Kathua rape case.

Following the gangrape and brutal murder of the minor girl from Bakerwal community, the nation witnessed a wide scale protests with the Opposition and several public figures joining the chorus to demand justice.

Eight persons accused in the case have been arrested by a Special Investigation Team formed to probe the incident. The accused include two special police officers (SPO) and a head constable, who has been accused of destroying evidence.
