The normalization of relations betweenand the , announced Thursday in a surprise manner by the US President is a "historic day", responded Israeli Prime Minister .

Israel: Concerns multiply for Benyamin Netanyahu
© Provided by Le Point Faced with the growing wave of demonstrations against him, Benyamin Netanyahu is in offensive mode. After qualifying the protesters as “anarchists”, he rose to power again during the Council of Ministers on Sunday: “Their objective is in fact to trample on our democracy. Another accusation: the protest movement is a coronavirus incubator (which is not proven).
In recent years, Israel has developed informal cooperation with regional economies such as Bahrain, the Emirates and Saudi Arabia with which it seeks to normalize its relations.
In the past, this normalization was closely linked to the peace process with the Palestinians, which was to serve as a bridge to relations with the Arab world and more broadly Muslim. But for Mr. Netanyahu, it is rather normalization with Arab countries that will push the Palestinians to a peace agreement with Israel.
"The Israeli and world left has always said that you cannot make a peace agreement with the Arab countries without peace with the Palestinians (...) For the first time in history, Benjamin Netanyahu broke this paradigm ", reacted his party, the Likud.
US President Donald Trump presented his Middle East peace project last January, which included the annexation by Israel of parts of the occupied West Bank.
And the government of Israeli unity had started in July to study the procedure to follow to implement this project, part of the political class fearing that a unilateral annexation, without preliminary talks with the Palestinians, would lead to more violence.
The announcement of normalization with the United Arab Emirates allows "to avoid" a "unilateral annexation", commented on Twitter the head of Israeli diplomacy Gabi Ashkenazi, member of the centrist party Blue White.
