Recycled sewage water could be drunk by Dubliners in the coming years, a new report shows.

Irish Water plans to find ways to stop shortages across the capital and recycling wastewater is one of the options.

A report outlines options for providing clean and safe water over the next 25 years, the Irish Independent reports.

Some sources across the capital are already under pressure, with the Greater Dublin Area envisaged to be the area with the biggest problems in the country.

A previous report warned that there will be a "continued strain" on existing supplies to meet demand, and that climate change will also affect supply.
