  Gardaí smash operation where clothes embedded with cocaine being imported into Ireland Gardaí have smashed a high-tech cocaine smuggling operation where clothing heavily embedded with the drug was being imported into Ireland from South America. Four people, all aged between their 20s and 40s, were arrested in west Cork after an intelligence led operation by Garda anti-drug units.An estimated €200,000 of drugs was seized at a property in west Cork.It is now being analysed by the State Laboratory to determine both its street value and purity.Initial indications are that the drugs were being sourced from Columbia or Venezuela.

"On the 5th December 2017 members from the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau assisted by the Special Crime Task Force investigating serious organised criminal activity in West Dublin searched an industrial unit in Newcastle, Co. Dublin where they seized approximately €1.6 million worth of Cannabis Herb.

"One man in his late 30s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. The investigation is on-going."

Gardaí searching for missing man (71) release CCTV images .
Gardaí searching for an elderly man missing from the south Dublin area have issued CCTV images in the hope of tracing his whereabouts. Brendan Burke (71) is missing from Rathfarnham, Dublin 16, since November 15. He is missing from the Bloomfield Care Centre and was last seen at 4.17pm on the 15th outside the Permanent TSB in Rathmines. Gardaí have released CCTV stills from the Permanent TSB in the hope that this will encourage people who were in the area and who may have seen him to come forward.An analysis of phone records also show that Mr Burke was in the city centre at around 8pm on that evening.
