The funeral of an Irish mum who died on Christmas Day in an alleged stabbing will take place on Thursday.

Mrs Jayne Toal Reat will be buried following a Requiem Mass at St Patrick’s Church, Banbridge, Co Down at 1pm.

She will be cremated at a private ceremony, Belfast Live reports.

Her grieving daughter Charlotte, who sustained stab wounds in the same incident, has urged mourners attending the funeral to pay tribute to her mother by wearing an item of clothing in powder blue or baby pink - Mrs Toal Reat’s favourite colours.

Her daughter Charlotte has shared the last photo taken of them together. It was taken hours before Mrs Toal Reat was fatally stabbed.

' Jayne Toal Reat you died saving my life and I just wish I could trade places with you'. A woman whose mother died in her arms after she was stabbed to death on Christmas morning, has hailed her as a hero for facing down the killer and saving her life.

She said: “This is the last picture I took with my beautiful mummy on Christmas Eve before we cuddled up on the sofa for the last time.

“Just before she gave me her last kiss, her last hug and before she told me she loved me for the very last time.

“My mummy has been taken from me her life was taken from her far too soon in the most cruel way.

“I have been in a panic that I'll never have this photo as it was on snapchat and I haven't got my phone but thankfully one of my best friends screenshotted it for me on Christmas morning.”

On her Facebook post, Charlotte told her friends: “Love my angel with all my heart and soul. My life is changed forever but I can feel you giving me the strength to get you the justice and face the creature who murdered you.”

Donations in lieu of flowers for Mrs Toal Reat’s funeral have been requested on behalf of Marie Curie NI c/o Gilmore Funeral Directors Ltd., 13 The Square, Comber, BT23 5DX.
