It is understood the female garda has ‘made admissions’ of taking cocaine in the nightclub toilet ’s cubicle with a male colleague and also named ‘two other officers’ for ‘ allegedly providing them’ with the substance.

TWO members of An Garda Siochana were caught snorting cocaine in a nightclub , it has emerged. A criminal investigation has been launched after the pair – one male and one female – were allegedly busted using the substance in a Co Kildare nightclub toilet cubical before Christmas.

“It was then decided that gardai would get a search warrant under the Drugs Act for a house associated with the female garda and the other officer. When they raided that house nothing was found.”

When they questioned her further the incident took a more sinister turn when she is understood to have identified her alleged dealer as a fellow member of the force.

Despite the lack of physical evidence the allegations did not go away.

It is understood Garda top brass received statements from the security man and two other nightclub employees. The female garda, who was still on probation and newly qualified, attempted to plead her case with her managers.

A source added: “This fell on deaf ears – she has considered her position and resigned. It is a very sorry situation for everyone involved. This garda was staring down the barrel of a sworn enquiry – the fact that she was still on probation when the alleged incident happened would have meant she was facing dismissal if found guilty.
