An animal sanctuary has blasted youngsters believed to be involved in killing a family cat in a town in Kilkenny.

Deise Animal Sanctuary posted a picture of the white cat on Facebook alongside a strongly worded message to those responsible for its death.

It’s understood the cat was shot with a pellet, which seriously injured its spine.

The sanctuary wrote: ‘Well to the dirty little sh**es who shot the cat in Mooncoin, tell your parents, who should be ashamed of your kids, the cat lost its fight for life.

Mr Barrett (25) from Beakstown, Holycross, Co Tipperary, was also fined €200 at Thurles district court today after Judge Elizabeth McGrath found the facts proven against him in relation to the incident which happened when heavy snow during Storm Emma made driving conditions dangerous on the morning of March 3 last.

The cat had been taken to Suirside Vets in Carrick On Suir following the incident, but its injuries were too severe.

The sanctuary added: ‘A big thank you to Suirside Vets and the lads who fought so hard to save the little dote.’
