Body of newborn baby found on beach in Ireland The body of a newborn baby has been found on a beach on Ireland's east coast. A volunteer cleaning the area found the infant on Balbriggan strand, north of Dublin, at around 10am on Saturday. The scene has been sealed off and a post-mortem is due to be conducted. Irish police say they are concerned about the well-being of the baby's mother and have appealed for her to come forward. A Garda spokesman said: "We are concerned for her safety and health given what she has gone through." The main railway line between Dublin and Belfast runs along the inside of the beach.

Tributes have flooded in for a newborn baby who was found dead on a Dublin beach on Saturday.

The body of the infant was found on Balbriggan beach shortly after 10am and Gardai have said they are concerned for the well-being of the mother.

Social Democrats candidate for Balbriggan, Garrett Mullan, said: “This is very sad news. On such a grim day for this to happen in Balbriggan. Let us hope that somehow the mother finds her way to get help.”

The body of a newborn baby was recovered from a Dublin beach earlier today. Gardai have sealed of the beach in Balbriggan , north county Dublin after the discovery of the body at 10am. Officers have said they are incredibly concerned about the safety of the infant's mother and ask her to come forward.

Local councillor Sharon Tolan said: “Very sad situation, I would appeal to the public for information so that the authorities can ensure the mother is safe and well.”

Niall Keady of Balbriggan.net said: “As a close knit community, we are extremely upset by this news and concerned for the mother and hope she would come forward and know that any member of our community would have nothing but compassion for her.”

On social media, people spoke in support of the woman and said they hoped she found support.

One person said: “Omg how sad, with all the changes in this country, we still have this tragedy happening.”

“Poor girl hopefully she gets medical help and RIP for poor little baby so sad in this day and age poor girl couldn’t confide in someone.”

Dozens of people have gathered tonight to pay an emotional tribute to Baby Belle who was found on a Dublin beach last week and to show support for her mother who has yet to be identified. At a candle-lit vigil this evening at St George’s Square in Balbriggan, local residents carried candles to the square where a priest prayed for Baby Belle who was discovered partially buried on a beach on Saturday morning. A post-mortem revealed the baby girl was stillborn at full-term and was left on the beach not long after her mother gave birth. The priest also prayed for the mother of the child and pleaded for her to come forward.
