While our neighbours across the Irish Sea are preparing for extreme weather, Ireland should escape the chill, Met Eireann says.

Cold air is set to sweep across Britain bringing heavy snow and icy temperatures, The Mirror UK reports.

The forecast for Ireland next week is a lot milder, with a mix of wind, dry spells and damp drizzly weather expected.

But we may see some night-time frosts next week as an active weather front moves closer to our shores.

Today will be mainly dry but Atlantic coastal areas will see some drizzle.

A forecaster said: “Friday will be mostly cloudy with a good deal of dry weather and some patchy mist.

“There’ll be some brighter intervals also. Highest temperatures of 8C to 11C with light west to south-west breezes, which will freshen in the evening.

A forecaster said: "Afternoon highs will range from 7C to 11C, with the coldest temperatures in the north. Moderate to fresh and gusty northwesterly winds, strong to near gale at the coasts."

Monday

Monday will start out mainly dry and bright, with the best of sunnier intervals in the east and south, but cloud will soon increasing from the Atlantic and patchy drizzle and mist will push into Atlantic coastal counties during the afternoon. Highs of 7C to 10C in light southwest breezes.

Tuesday

A good deal of dry and bright weather seems likely in parts of the south and east. Generally cloudier conditions with patchy outbreaks of light rain and drizzle look likely to prevail further north and west. Relatively mild with highs of 9C to 11C in light to moderate southwesterly breezes.

Met Eireann also revealed conditions are set to change again from the middle of next week.

They said: "A changeable more mobile Atlantic regime is probable, with damp or wet and windy episodes, alternating with drier and brighter interludes.

"Temperatures will tend to trend closer to average, with an increased risk of night-time frosts."
