There are possible traffic delays in Dublin’s city centre as gardai close O’Connell Bridge.

The bridge is closed from South Quay to North Quay, which may cause disruptions on roads in the city.

Emergency services have rushed to the scene.

On Twitter, gardai explained details of what has happened.

The tweet read: ‘Traffic Alert: O’Connell Bridge closed from South Quay to North Quay due to an ongoing incident.

‘Emergency services enroute. O’Connell Bridge from North Quay to South Quay remains open.’

The delays come as many of Ireland’s roads may be dangerous following Sunday evening’s snow fall.

While much of the snow has cleared, conditions remain frosty as low temperatures may cause ice on roads.

Met Eireann has forecast a cold Monday morning with frost, fog and snow lying in places at first.

There will be some sunny spells in eastern areas this morning but occasional heavy rain and hail showers in western counties will become widespread.

Advice on how to drive during the frosty conditions was released to drivers.

Gardai told motorists to remember:

  • It takes longer to stop a vehicle in snow or on icy roads so slow down and allow extra distance between you and the vehicle in front.
  • Keep a sharp lookout for pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users.
  • Keep your windows clear of snow during your journey.
  • Manoeuvre gently; avoid harsh braking, acceleration or steering as these can induce a skid.
  • Use the highest gear possible to reduce the engine revs as this will help avoid wheel spin.
  • When travelling downhill, especially through a series of bends, select a low gear as early as possible and allow your speed to reduce using the brake pedal gently.
