Pic Daragh Mc Sweeney/Provision Sunshine is now on the horizon after Ireland endured a blustery Spring blast, but gusts of over 100km/hour are set to lash the west coast on Monday night.

Cork and Waterford was hit with a mega deluge of rain Monday as flash flooding in spots sparked danger zones for drivers.

Met Eireann revealed the worst will be over tonight as it is set to end a 24 hour long weather warning at 6pm.

Forecaster Aoife Murray warned the east isn’t in the clear just yet, but temperatures are set to climb.

Pic Michael Mac Sweeney/Provision She said: “In the morning there will be some rain over the east and northeast of the country and that will gradually clear away during the day.

“Max temps nine to 12 degrees in the east and north of the country and 13 to 15 degrees elsewhere.”

She signalled that sunshine is set to peek through later this week.

“As we go through the week, it gets a touch milder day by day.

“Wednesday there might be some patchy rain down around the north west to start, but it should die out.

“It looks like it will be quite cloudy on Wednesday and there will be a bit of an easterly breeze as well, but it will be mild again.

“Temperatures (will be) 11 to 13 degrees in the east and northeast and 13 to 15 degrees elsewhere.

“The winds ease off on Thursday and there’s more in the way of sunny spells.

“It’s going to be warmer on Thursday so temperatures are up to 18 degrees and possibly 19 degrees that day.”

“In the east, it will be cooler, 13 degrees, with 18 or 19 degrees over Connaught and west Munster.”

While it’s too early to get the full picture, the weekend is already looking promising.

The forecaster said: “Again Friday getting warmer again, could have temperatures up around 20 degrees in the west, again light winds, sunny spells, feeling quite nice.

Met Eireann is forecasting temperatures of up to 20C on Good Friday, and Saturday will be even warmer - making Ireland hotter than Lanzarote. A spokesperson said: "Good Friday will be dry with sunny spells. It will be warm with light variable breezes and highest temperatures of 15C to 20C.

“There’s just a little bit of uncertainty as we go into the weekend.

“There will be a little bit of cloud heading into the west.

“Again we will have temperature of 20 degrees, but those temperatures will be towards the East of the country on the Saturday.

“There are indications that there could be a front coming into the west on Sunday but again it’s a little bit too far out to know, but generally it does look good.”
