A mother who lost both her young daughters to murder-suicide has given her backing to a Government review of familicide.

The new study which is expected to lead to better supports for surviving relatives and new protocols for how investigations are carried out.

Ms Butler told the Irish Independent: ‘Hopefully, and I have no doubt, this study will help to prevent further families from suffering the devastating loss of a child or family member’.

The review has also received the backing of Kathleen Chada who has urged the Government to take immediate action to help victims of familicide.

Ms Chada’s life was shattered when her husband husband Sanjeev murdered their sons Eoghan, 10 and Ruairi, 5, on July 29, 2013.

The review has also been given the backing of Clodagh Hawe’s family, the Cavan woman was murdered along with her children – Liam, 14, Niall, 11, and six-year-old Ryan – at the hands of her husband, Alan Hawe, in August 2016.
