Two people have been injured after a crash in Cork City.

The incident happened on Saturday night and involved a Bus Eireann coach.

The passenger bus and car collided along the Model Farm Road in Cork City shortly after 10pm.

Pictures show the extend of the crash, which shows the smash front of the coach.

Photos also show the car, which was left in ruins.

Drivers of both vehicles were rushed to Cork University Hospital but their injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

A garda spokesperson said: ‘Gardai attended a road traffic collision on the Model Farm Rd, Co Cork. The incident involving a bus and a car occurred on Friday at approximately 10.10pm.

‘Both drivers (male) were taken to Cork University Hospital with non life threatening injuries.’

Specialised equipment had to be used to free the men before they removed to hospital by ambulance.

A Cork City Fire Brigade spokesperson said: ‘Overnight crews attended a Road Traffic Collision on the Model Farm Road.

‘Numerous Casualties removed from the incident by firefighters using specialised cutting equipment and treated by the National Ambulance Service.’

A Bus Eireann spokesman said: ‘A collision occurred last night between a Bus Éireann bus and another vehicle on the Model Farm Road.

‘The collision occurred at 22.10 and involved the 21.17hrs Route 220 Carrigaline to Ovens service, on which six passengers were travelling.

‘The emergency services were immediately called to the scene and all bus passengers were safely evacuated. Our driver was brought to hospital where he remains with non-life threatening injuries.

‘The cause of the accident is not yet known, but an investigation is underway by Bus Éireann and the relevant authorities.’
