A search is on to find a missing fisherman who has gone missing off the coast of Wexford.

The man fell from a fishing vessel at approximately 5.30am at Kilmore Quay and went into the water.

The RNLI are in the process of searching for the fisherman with the help of a helicopter.

The RNLI said in a statement: ‘Rosslare Harbour RNLI launched at approximately 6am at the request of the Irish Coast Guard following a report that a fisherman was missing from a trawler that left Rosslare in the early hours of this morning.

‘He was reported missing at 5.45am, 20 miles south of the Saltee Islands.

A major search operation is underway after a helicopter disappeared off the coast of Ireland. After completing the medical evacuation of the fisherman the original rescue helicopter returned to the scene to search for the other aircraft. Lifeboat crews from nearby villages are also assisting in the search .
