This is the dramatic moment five crew members onboard an Irish yacht were rescued off the Spanish coast.

Spanish rescue teams were alerted to a problem by the crew of the Loa Zour at 8:30pm on Thursday night during an orange weather alert for Storm Miguel.

The yacht, which was coming from Kinsale in Cork, was about 85km northwest of Coruna when it ran into trouble, Cork Beo reports.

Storm Miguel was thrashing the coast of Spain with large waves and poor visibility making the rescue "very complicated", according to the rescue team.

The Spanish rescue agency helicopter was tasked to the yacht with 125km/h winds making things even more difficult.

Each crew member had to jump one by one into the sea to be lifted to the helicopter.

The five men, one Croatian and four Irish, were all brought to safety and did not need medical assistance.
