A man has died after a stabbing Part of O ’ Connell Street is now closed off and traffic restrictions are in place. There are no Luas services running between St Stephen’s Green and Dominic.

O ' Connell Street (Irish: Sráid Uí Chonaill) is Dublin's main thoroughfare. It measures 49 m (54 yds) in width at its southern end, 46 m (50 yds) at the north, and is 500 m (547 yds) in length.

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

It is being reported that eye witnesses saw two men getting into an altercation near the Greshem Hotel on O'Connell Street.

A knife was produced and one of the men was stabbed to death at 1:40am in what was described as a "violent attack" by eye-witnesses.

However, his detention was suspended and he was brought to hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

O'Connell Street is still closed in both directions and is being sealed off as a crime scene.

The scene is being preserved for forensic examination and the whole street has been closed off to the GPO and beyond.
