A graveyard in Armagh was shut down by the bomb squad on Monday after police stumbled upon a suspect device while searching the area for drugs.

Bomb squad rushed to the graveyard in Lurgan and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) closed off the area around St Colman’s cemetery as the operation got underway.

Speaking about the incident, Chief Inspector Barney O’Connor said:’Officers attended the cemetery at Tarry Lane in Lurgan yesterday to conduct a search of the grounds as part of an ongoing operation into illegal drugs activity.

‘I want to thank the community for their patience while a public safety operation was conducted, however, when it comes to keeping people safe we take no chances.

‘Enquiries are ongoing and I want to appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area, or anyone with any information, to contact police in Lurgan on 101,’ O’Connor said.

Anyone in the area with concerns or information about illegal drugs activity have also been urged to contact police on 101.

BOMB experts have been called to a Melbourne street where a man was arrested by special operations group police today. The police bomb response unit is expected to be at the Eddie St property for most of the day. A Victoria Police spokesman said a number of " suspicious items" had been found .

The Eugene bomb squad used high-pressure water to dispose of a cylinder wrapped in duct tape and topped with a fuse. The suspicious device was found Tuesday afternoon on a bike path near Autzen Stadium. Police closed the path to the public and called in the bomb disposal unit.
