Two men have been hospitalised after suffering serious head injuries following an altercation at a Luas stop in Dublin.

Gardai are investigating a serious assault following the incident which happened on Mayor Street at around 6.15pm on Saturday.

Two men, who are both aged in their late 20s, have been hospitalised following the assault at a Luas stop.

One of the men has been taken to the Mater Hospital and the other has been brought to St James’s Hospital.

Both of their injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.

The scene of the assault was preserved for a short time but the Luas service has since been restored and is operating normally.

A garda spokeswoman told Extra.ie: Gardai attended a serious assault that occurred on Mayor St , Dublin 1 on the 6th July 2019 at approximately 6.15pm .
