Two men have been hospitalised and three have been arrested following an attack in Dublin city centre.

Gardaí are investigating after two men were rushed to hospital after the incident in Capel St at around 7pm on Monday.

The two men, 60s and 30s, were treated for facial injuries in the Mater Hospital.

Three other men were arrested and are being detained in Bridewell Garda Station.

A garda spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing.

They said: "Gardaí are investigating an alleged assault on two males (early 60s and early 30s) that occurred at approximately 7pm Monday 8th July 2019 on Capel Street, Dublin 1.

A MAN has been rushed to hospital after an alleged stabbing incident in Dublin city centre today. The incident happened on Essex Quay near Gratan Two people, a man and a woman both in their 20s, were arrested in the aftermath of the incident and are being detained at Pearse Street garda station.

"Both males were taken to the Mater Hospital with facial injuries. 3 males (30s, 20s, 40s) were arrested and detained at Bridewell Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Investigations are ongoing."
