"Some dry spells this morning, mainly in eastern and southern areas, but some rain too, especially over Ulster and Connacht.

"The rain will be more widespread this afternoon and evening and heavy in places. Close and humid, top temperatures 18C to 22C, in mostly moderate southerly breezes."

Thursday will be a little cooler, but it will be a drier day with the odd sunny spell.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Hazy sunny spells and showers today, some of the showers heavy and prolonged. "Feeling warm and humid with top temperatures ranging 18 to 23C in moderate south or southwest breezes. "Becoming mainly dry early in the night with just the odd shower. "However, a spell of heavy rain will move in from the Atlantic to affect the west and north later. Lowest temperatures 12 to 15C in moderate to fresh southwest breezes.
