On June 28, Jill Amante died after getting into difficulty while swimming at Seapoint Beach near Drogheda. The 14-year-old was remembered as a “bright, exuberant” girl. And just last weekend, seven-year-old Chantelle Keenan died after a car parked in a driveway in Drogheda rolled over her. It is understood a number of children were at the tragic scene. Meanwhile, Roger Sweeney of Irish Water Safety said extra vigilance is needed as “more people are using the water” and there is an “average of five drownings every fortnight”.

Emergency services were called to the home of the ten-year-old at Mountain Hill in Carlingford at around 7am on Thursday morning.

Joshua was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. His death is being treated as a tragic accident.

On Thursday, local SDLP politician Justin McNulty shared his condolences to Joshua's family on social media.

The former Armagh footballer wrote: "Devastating news from Carlingford today.

A death notice on RIP.ie reads: "Suddenly at home following an accident. Joshie's memory will be cherished forever by his heartbroken parents Olivia and Peter, best friend and brother Oliver, adoring grandparents Marie and John Mackin and Christopher and Sandy Hill, uncles and aunts Andrew and Linda, Davinia and Damien, Darren and Ceire, John and Rheea, Charlotte and Lee, special cousins Chelsie, Amy, Clare, Sarah, Darah, Dillon, Alex and Uma, doting aunt Bridie and close family and friends."

Joshua's funeral will be held this Saturday at 11am in St. Michael's Church, Carlingford with burial afterwards in St. Michael's Cemetery, Carlingford.

Family flowers only. Donations if desired to Maria Goretti Foundation, a donation box will be available at the church.
