One of the most prestigious events in the Irish racing calendar, the Kerrygold Irish Oaks took place in the Curragh today. Each year the racing meet draws in the most stylish, fashion-savvy crowds and today was no different with the Kerrygold Fashions on the Field best dressed competition taking place.

And judges Ciara O’Doherty, Marty Morrissey and EVOKE.ie’s own Sybil Mulcahy had a tough job choosing just one fashionista to take home the top prize that includes a luxury weekend for two at the exclusive 5 Star Ballyfin Demesne, where Kim Kardashian and Kanye West went for their honeymoon!

Man dies after crash between motorcycle and car in Killeagh, Co Cork The incident happened at around 6.30pm today on the N25 between Cork and Waterford . The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and brought to Cork University Hospital. His age is not known at this time. The two occupants of the car, a man and woman both in their 80s, were also taken to Cork University Hospital as a precaution. A garda spokesman said: "Forensic Collision Investigators are at the scene. The road is expected to stay closed overnight with local diversions in place.

The 31-year-old primary school teacher has been going to meets in the Curragh ever since she can remember, but never in a million years did she think she would one day take home the winning prize on what is traditionally known as Ladies Day.

Just to even be picked, I was absolutely thrilled!’ ‘I have been coming down to all the racing here in the Curragh since I was a tiny tot. There’s a massive community between the Curragh Racing and the schools which is fantastic.’

A Kilkenny woman has won Boodles Best Dressed Lady at the Darley Irish Oaks this weekend at The Curragh Kilkenny woman overcomes tragedy to be crowned Best Dressed at The Curragh. In the end, it was Kilkenny race -goer Kate Conlon who took home the title and the coveted prize.

‘I’ve never even entered a competition before never mind won; it’s always been a dream! ‘ Eimear, who is just back from a year teaching in Abu Dhabi, admits she borrowed her winning dress from a ‘very good friend’ who encouraged her to attend the Kerrygold Irish Oaks. The Kildare native stole the show in her elegant ASOS stone-blue midi-dress with flower pattern detailing.

A golden crown hired from local shop Hat’s Amore. ‘I love an aul bargain’, laughs Eimear, admitting that while she felt confident in her outfit upon arrival, she was blown away by the beautiful style at today’s main event.

‘I just though ‘Oh Wow!’ Everyone looked incredible and so comfortable in their outfits which I think is really important.’ The newly crowned winner says she plans to share her winning prize with her mum Caroline, a legal secretary, who she describes as a ‘superwoman.’ ‘My mum could do with a nice break away so I’ll treat her to the stay in Ballyfin,’ Eimear tells EVOKE.ie.

She’s so supportive for myself, my brother and my sister. She’s done an awful lot for us the last few years – and for everyone!’ Eimear describes Caroline as her ‘idol,’ adding that she has a strength like she can’t even imagine.

‘My dad passed away a couple of years ago and she took a lot of with that,’ she explains. ‘It was quite a tough time but my mum has been a superwoman. I moved away to Abu Dhabi, my sister has moved away to Canada so she was picking up the pieces on her own. She’s the best person.’ And by the sounds of it Eimear’s father John was looking down proudly on his daughter today.

Gardai confirmed last night that the investigation was under way, but said there had been no arrests. The incident is alleged to have taken place in the early hours of Sunday morning. Australian police search for two Irish men after two others seriously injured in car crash.
The crash happened in the early hours of Saturday morning. It is understood that at least two of the men involved in the crash are originally from Co Donegal. One of the injured men, a 25-year-old, was left unconscious having suffered serious injuries. He was taken to St George’s Hospital where he is in a critical but stable condition. The other trapped passenger, a 27-year-old man, was taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he is in a serious but stable condition.
