Convicted murderer Patrick Quirke has been transferred from Limerick Prison to maximum security Portlaoise Prison, Extra.ie can reveal.

Well-placed prison sources say that Quirke is now on the C4 landing at the Portlaoise jail, where gangland boss Brian Rattigan is also housed. Portlaoise is Ireland’s only maximum security jail.

Sources reveal that the 50-year-old dairy farmer had requested a transfer to either Portlaoise or Midlands jail, for ease of access for visits from his Tipperary-based family.
