A Waterford GAA Club has paid tribute to one’s of it’s players who died in a tragic road accident in Mallow at the weekend.

Jack McGrath (18) who did his Leaving Cert at CBS Dungarvan, was involved in a single vehicle accident happened on the N25 near Midleton, County Cork, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital with serious head injuries, where he passed away on Sunday.

It is believed that he travelled to Middleton to collect his parents from an event.

Local Dungarvan councillor Damien Geoghan (FG) wrote on Facebook ‘’Rest In Peace Jack. Truly heartbreaking. Sincere sympathy to Johnny, Lucia, Holly and all of Jack’s family, friends and team-mates’’.

As a mark of respect a book of condolences was opened at Bushy Park GAA grounds on Monday evening.

He is survived by his parents Johnny & Lucia, sister Holly, girlfriend Áine Reilly, grandmother Mairéad and extended family.

It is understood that the rapist was living with a female friend in the area . That women herself has moved out of the house. Locals reported that the convict had not been seen since last week and they got word this morning that he had left the premises and that the locks had been changed. One of the conditions of the partial suspension of his most recent sentence was that he be of good behaviour for three years after his release. Locals had pleaded with gardaí to arrest the man as he was not fulfilling the terms of his release.
