THREE fearful homeless charity volunteers had to flee in terror in the early hours of Friday when a hooded psycho brandished a knife and menacingly followed them.

The trio, who had been working with the Feed Our Homeless charity in Wolfe Tone Park, encountered the man, who was dressed completely in black, at midnight.

The latest terrifying incident comes just six days after a homeless man, in his 50s, was viciously assaulted in the same park in a knife attack.

He was treated at the Mater Hospital for his injuries after being cut in the Dublin City Centre area.

Another man was left covered in blood after a separate vicious assault during which his mobile phone was stolen on August 11 by two thugs in Wolfe Tone Park.

Tony Walsh, the founder of Feed Our Homeless, said he wants to raise awareness and highlight the fact that the park is very dangerous.

He added: “We’ve had two previous serious incidents in that park. They were two homeless people where one man got stabbed and another guy had his mobile phone stolen.

“And it just seems that that park is very dangerous at night.”

Mr Walsh said there is currently 14 rough sleepers living in tents and sleeping rough in Wolfe Tone Park and the outreach team want to help them.

He added: “[It’s important] for the guards to look in in that park at night and also for the relevant authorities to make more beds available for the people that are sleeping in those tents in the park.

“It’s coming to the stage now here we’re thinking twice about going into that park with our services because it’s very dangerous at night.

Mr Walsh said FOH are working closely with the Simon Community and some of the homeless in Wolfe Tone Park have been given beds in the emergency hostels and they hope the remainder will be indoors in the coming days.
