Two men that were arrested yesterday in connection with the fatal stabbing of Derek Reddin in south Dublin have been released without charge.

The men, both in their 30s, were arrested yesterday following the incident on Loughlinstown Drive in the early hours of Tuesday.

Emergency services and gardaí rushed to the scene but Mr Reddin was pronounced dead.

The two men were released without charge this afternoon, and a file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A garda spokesman said: "The two men in their 30s arrested on Tuesday 15th October 2019 in relation to this investigation were released without charge earlier this afternoon Wednesday 16th October 2019.

Residents of Loughlinstown said that the killing was completely out of the norm for what is usually a "quiet and family-filled area".

One neighbour said: "The community is rocked by the news. This is a lovely peaceful area and is a genuine shock to people."

A second added: "You would be worried about children going out at night around here after this. I've been here for 36 years and nothing like this has ever happened before. It's sad to see it happen on your doorstep."

Normally I don't fall asleep until after midnight but on Monday I was asleep by 9."It was only when I woke up in the morning and saw the Gardai in front of the house and heard what happened that I thought to myself 'I better check the CCTV footage'."The resident said that the footage shows the victim with another person hiding behind bushes near the scene before appearing to attack a group of men across the road.
