A firework in a bin led to one of the city's busiest roads being locked down.

Dublin experienced traffic chaos today after an alarm was raised over a suspect device at Christchurch Place.

The Army EOD team rushed to the scene at around 1.30pm and a robot was deployed to help inspect a bin where the device was sitting.

Major traffic delays were felt across the city while the church was evacuated.

Many of those cleared watched on filming from behind the cordon.

They're back: Extinction Rebellion protesters build pyramid in Oxford Circus Extinction Rebellion protesters have built a pyramid in Oxford Circus - as activists who halted trains by climbing on them yesterday appear in court. Protesters blocked off the junction on the UK's busiest shopping street with banners before quickly erecting bamboo poles in a pyramid shape, with a tree branch hanging from the middle of it.Some of the protesters locked themselves to the structure to raise awareness of the climate emergency.Others attached themselves to each other with pipes as they lay on the ground around the pyramid with Extinction Rebellion flags on them.

Christ Church Cathedral is a cathedral of the Church of Ireland which is a constituent member of the world wide Anglican Communion. We are always delighted to welcome inquisitive minds of any age in the cathedral and can tailor a visit to suit any particular party's needs.

The building of Christ Church Cathedral by first settlers began just 14 years after the city was founded. The ambitious design by leading architects George Gilbert Scott and Benjamin Mountfort took 40 years to complete and is the jewel in the crown of Christchurch ’s renowned Victorian Gothic

The area was declared safe again at around 3.20pm and it's now believed the device in question was a firework.

According to The Irish Examiner, the alarm was raised after someone saw smoke bellowing from the bin outside the popular tourist attraction.

Many residents were unable to leave their apartments while shoppers were barricaded in while the operation took place.

Traffic delays are now expected to knock-on into the evening as a result of the incident.
