A pensioner was allegedly assaulted by a man as she waited on a hospital trolley in Galway for hours.

The 74-year-old woman had been on a trolley for 72 hours in Galway University Hospital when the alleged assault occurred.

She had been transferred to the hospital from another facility with a suspected infection when she was said to have been assaulted by ‘somebody who was drunk’.

Independent TD Catherine Connolly said in the Dail on Tuesday that the woman was left ‘screaming in pain’ after the man was left ‘roaming about with a carer but not being properly cared for’.

A 103-year-old woman spent almost 15 hours waiting on a trolley in the Midland Regional Hospital , Tullamore, before finally getting a bed, RTÉ News has confirmed. While she is not reported to be in a serious condition, she was admitted to a hospital bed this morning.
