An arrested man managed to escape garda custody after making an elaborate run from A&E.

The man, 30s, is currently at large after allegedly scaling down the side of St James's Hospital where he was brought for treatment following his arrest.

He was brought to the city centre hospital this morning after being arrested in relation to a public order incident.

A source told Dublin Live how the patient then managed to gain access to the roof of the hospital through a ceiling tile.

There was chaos in the corridors as he scaled down from the roof of the main hospital building before fleeing on foot.

It's also understood a drone borrowed from Dublin City Council was used to try and track the man but he is still currently at large.

Gardai from Kilmainham rushed to the scene to try and restrain him but to no avail.

A garda spokesman confirmed the incident telling Dublin Live the investigation is ongoing.

"A 30 year old man who had been arrested today 24th October 2019 in connection with an incident of public order, escaped from Garda Custody while at a Hospital in James' St D8.

"He remains at large and investigations are ongoing."
