The crash occurred in the middle of the traffic calming area during an annual all vehicle fundraiser, which had attracted a large crowd to Ballinaboola Village in Co Wexford.

A garda spokesperson confirmed both mother and child sustained minor injuries, saying the collision had nothing to do with the fundraiser.

The spokesperson added that it occurred at around 3.30 pm on the N25, Wexford to Waterford road, near New Ross.

They said: "There was a heavy impact and the woman and her boy were very lucky to escape without serious injury.

Gardaí in New Ross , Co Wexford are seeking the public’s help in relation to a hit and run incident. Mr William Sinnott, of Bosheen Estate, New Ross , died after being hit by a car on Mary Street in the town at 3.10 a.m. yesterday. Mr Sinnott had turned 20 the previous day. So far the Gardaí do not have a

A Renault car, which is believed to have been occupied by two men, crashed into the car and stopped briefly, during which time the driver was told there was a boy inside.

"The driver showed scant regard for the safety of the woman and child.

"The outcome here could have been much worse.’"
