It's understood that the raid, at a sports store on Cook Street, had been planned for some time.

In a tip-off to the Opinion Line on Cork's 96FM, organisers had asked participants to meet on Winthrop Street and they were told to wear all black clothing with a balaclava and gloves.

The chilling plan also said that they only had one minute to "yam that shop" and that partaking is at your own risk, CorkBeo reports.

People were told not to come if they couldn't run and not to wear uniform.

Crowds were seen on Cook Street outside JD Sports and Gardai were manning the main entrance to the shop.

Garda patrol cars and vans were seen on Patrick Street and Oliver Plunkett Street.
