The couple who died in a road crash in Co Limerick yesterday morning have been named as 84-year-old Christopher Scullane and his wife Mary Ellen, who was 70. They were from Lemington Spa in Warwickshire in the UK. It is understood they were in Ireland to visit an ill relative.

Gardaí are investigating the incident which happened in the townland of Garraunboy, Adare.

The 16-year-old boy suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by the car at around 3.45am.

His body remains at the scene, and will be removed to Limerick University Hospital shortly where a post mortem will take place.

The male driver in his 40s was uninjured in the incident.

The scene is currently closed, and garda forensic investigators will soon examine the scene.

A man in his 50 has died in a road crash in Co Limerick in the early hours of this morning. The man, who was alone in his car, was fatally injured when the car hit a ditch at Ballincolly, Kilmallock at around 1.30am. His body has been removed to Cork University Hospital. No other vehicles were involved.
