The woman who is in her 20s was approached by the young male at Wedgewood Estate in Sandyford as she made her way to Kilmacud Luas Stop.

The thug was armed with a knife and demanded the woman's purse but she managed to run away from the attacker leaving him empty-handed.

Gardaí said they are investigating the horrifying attack and added that thankfully the woman had not been injured during the incident.

A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí are investigating an attempted robbery from a woman that occurred at Wedgewood Estate, Sandyford, Dublin 18."
