Gardai are investigating a hit-and-run after a car mounted a footpath and struck a man who was walking with a boy in Limerick on Saturday night.

The driver fled the scene and the car was later found burnt out.

The 31-year-old pedestrian was walking at Quarry Road, Thomondgate, Limerick, and suffered head injuries in the collision.

The boy, believed to be 12 years old, was not injured, said a source.

State troopers are looking for the driver who left a 19-year-old seriously injured in a Bradenton neighborhood on Sunday night, officials said.

A Bremen man is in fair condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland after suffering a head injury in a hit - and - run on Rial Herald Road in Bremen on Sunday night. George Stouter, 76, of Bremen was walking his dog when he stopped to talk to a neighbor in a vehicle going west, away from Route 32.

The victim was taken from the scene by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.

A Garda spokesman that no arrests have been made and that investigations are continuing.

In a second, unrelated incident on Saturday, a male pedestrian suffered serious head injuries after he was struck by a taxi at Corbally Roundabout in Limerick, at around 1.30am.

A Garda source said it appeared the man was dragged by the taxi for several feet during the incident.

A 152 L-registered, white-coloured taxi was being forensically examined following the collision.

A man was left needing hospital treatement after being hit by a car in Inverness. Emergency services were called to Tower Road on the outskirts of the city at around 6.20am, where a man was struck by a Volkswagen Passat. He was taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment for a head injury .

He has suffered "serious" head and possible chest injuries and has been taken to Southmead Hospital in a "serious condition". A spokesperson from South Western Ambulance Service said: "We received the call at 5.32pm. There were reports that a male had been involved in a collision with a bus.

The Garda source added that the male pedestrian sustained serious internal and external head injuries.

It is understood the pedestrian was being treated for a bleed to the brain.

The driver was not physically injured but was understood to have been left shaken by the collision.
