A gang armed with a handgun threatened terrified staff at a garage in Co Wexford.

Four men, believed to be based in Dublin, have been arrested following the incident in the Clonroche area at around 10am on Thursday.

It is understood they threatened staff in the commercial garage before leaving the scene in a silver Hyundai car.

Witnesses said the men were carrying a handgun, but no shots were fired and nobody was injured during the incident.

After a follow-up operation, officers in the Roads Policing Units saw a car travelling towards Dublin on the M9 motorway.

The car was intercepted shortly after by members of the Emergency Response Unit on the M7 near Naas.

Two men have been arrested after gardaí seized a loaded handgun in circumstances where they believe the intention was to commit murder. The two are known to gardaí as being connected to the Kinahan crime gang and it is believed they were involved in targeting a member of the rival Hutch gang .

All four occupants of the car have been arrested, and the vehicle has been seized for a technical examination.

A garda spokesman said: "The four men arrested (one aged in his 30s, two in their 40s and one 50s) are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 across Garda Stations in Co Wexford.

"Investigations are ongoing and further updates will follow."
