  Taoiseach Leo Varadkar could call general election for next month The comments come just a day ahead of the crunch meeting with Fianna Fáil leader Micheál MartinThe Taoiseach has up until now insisted that a May election date would be his preference.

The warning takes effect from 9pm this evening and lasts until 10am tomorrow morning. Dry and very cold tonight with a widespread frost. Minimum temperatures zero to -4 degrees. Mist will thicken into fog overnight with some extensive fog and freezing fog possible by morning

Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange warning with temperatures set to plummet this evening . The warning effects Munster, inland areas of Leinster , Connacht , Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan. Temperatures are set to fall to between -4C and -6C degrees from 9pm.

A STATUS YELLOW low temperature warning will take effect for Leinster and Connacht this evening. 

Met Éireann has warned a very cold night is ahead with temperatures set to dip as low as minus 4 degrees in the affected areas. 

The warning takes effect from 6pm this evening until 11am tomorrow morning. 

The forecaster said that temperatures will stay below freezing until mid-morning on Saturday with widespread frost and the risk of icy patches. 

“Cold and clear tonight with a widespread sharp to severe frost and icy surfaces.” 

The frost will clear by Saturday afternoon with a calm and mostly sunny day expected. Staying cold throughout the day, temperatures will range between 3 to 7 degrees.

  Two weather warnings for wind and rain as Met Eireann says several counties can expect strong gusts and flooding The Status Yellow messages warn of gusts of up to 110km/h and up to 50mm of rain over 24 hours in parts of the country .Firstly, the wind warning is for Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Kerry.It says to expect south to southwest winds of 50 to 65km/h and gusts of 90 to 110km/h, strongest on exposed coasts and hills, between the hours of 3pm on Friday to 11am on Saturday.Secondly, the rainfall warning is for Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo.It states: "Heavy rain with accumulations of 40-50mm over the period with localised flooding.

A Status Yellow low temperature warning has been issued for overnight tonight and early tomorrow. Met Éireann said up to 3cm of snow is possible in some areas tomorrow evening . The warning comes into effect from 6pm tomorrow until 6am on Tuesday and covers Leinster , Cavan

Tomorrow night will see temperatures falling back to minus 3 or minus 4 degrees with some fog settling in, mostly in the midlands. 

Sunday is expected to start off with a “sharp and severe frost”  but overall it will be “dry and sunny with just light breezes”. 

Met Éireann has forecast conditions becoming less cold as the week goes on but it will become unsettled with rain, mist and fog by Tuesday.
