Members of Dublin Fire Brigade carried out the rescue at Rosie Hackett Bridge in the city centre. From it's official Twitter account, the Dublin Fire Brigade tweeted: "A person has been removed from the # Liffey near the Rosie Hackett bridge by Firefighters based in HQ.

Dublin Fire Brigade bravely carried out a river rescue from the River Liffey tonight, blocking traffic lanes.

The incident happened along the Quays in the city centre near Butt Bridge, with two lanes closed to traffic near Custom House.

And there were reports of traffic lanes being blocked as far as the nearby Tara Street.

Dublin Fire Brigade said: "We're currently conducting a river rescue on the North Quays, lanes temporarily blocked as our firefighters work."

AA Roadwatch said: "There's an incident on the  North Quays before Tara St, blocking two lanes."
