Gardai are investigating after the bodies of three children were found dead in a house in Dublin.

A horror scene was sealed off after the shock discovery of the kids in the home in Newcastle in the south-west of the county.

A woman, understood to be their mother, was also rushed to hospital after being found in a disorientated state by a taxi driver on the street outside at around 7pm.

After finding the woman, gardai then went into the home at Parsons Court were the grim discovery was made.

The mother, 40s, is currently in Tallaght Hospital and gardai are not looking at any other people in relation to the case.

A spokeswoman appealed to anyone with information to contact Clondalkin Gardai Station.

She said: "Gardaí are currently attending the scene of an incident at a domestic house in Newcastle, Co. Dublin. The bodies of three children, two boys and a girl, have been discovered.

"Gardaí are currently investigating the circumstances of their unexplained deaths.

There was an eerie sense of horror and disbelief as local people heard of the sudden deaths of three young children.

A number of relatives of the family arrived at the grisly scene and looked distraught and ashen-faced as they spoke to detectives.

One neighbour who did not want to be identified said: “I only found out five minutes ago after my brother rang because it was on the news.

“I was oblivious [because we live in the corner] so I didn’t know anything. “

Another neighbour had visited the woman and said they were “trying to piece it together ourselves”.

She added: “I have kids upstairs, she has kids next door.
