  Two separate avalanches kill six in Austrian Alps Six people have died after avalanches hit two separate areas of the Austrian Alps on Sunday, according to local authorities. In the central Dachstein area, a location popular with hikers, five people were killed after an avalanche hit a snowshoeing group at 9.30am local time.A second incident in the south-western Grosslockner area killed a police officer just a few hours later.All five of the victims from the earliest incident are believed to be from the Czech Republic, and were said to already be dead by the time rescuers managed to reach them.

Tributes have been paid to a talented young hurler who tragically died in a car crash in the early hours of Tuesday morning. 

John Daly, 18, was killed in a single car crash near his home in Cratloe, Co Clare, shortly before 3am.

The popular teenager was pronounced dead at the scene with a garda investigation underway into the tragedy. 

Local councillor Patrick O'Gorman described John as a "lovely fella" and said the community has been left in a state of shock. 

The Fianna Fail representative told the Irish Mirror: "We are all shocked and saddened here after we heard the news this morning.

Local GAA club Cratloe whom John was an exciting young player for paid tribute after they learned the news.

A spokesperson said: "This morning, we learned of the tragic passing of one of our young players, John Daly.

"The whole community is shocked and deeply saddened and the club would like to extend our sincere sympathies to John’s parents Sean and Linda and his twin sister Claire, extended family, neighbours, friends and teammates.

"It is particularly difficult in these unprecedented times, when all you want to do is reach out, console and support each other as a club and community like we have done at tragic times in the past. Please look after each other, whatever way ye can and stay safe.

Gardai are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time to contact them regarding their investigation.
