  Merkel in quarantine after doctor tests positive for virus BERLIN (AP) — German Chancellor Angela Merkel has gone into quarantine after being informed that a doctor who administered a vaccine to her has tested positive for the new coronavirus. Merkel's spokesman said the German chancellor, who is 65, was informed about the doctor's test shortly after holding a news conference Sunday announcing new measures to curb the spread of the virus. Her spokesman, Steffen Seibert, said Merkel had received a precautionary vaccine Friday against pneumococcal infection.Seibert said in a statement that Merkel would undergo "regular tests" in the coming days and continue with her work from home for the time being.

The latest victim to die at the hands of the cruel coronavirus has been named as Swords native John McGroddy.

The 82-year-old passed away on Sunday after being tested positive for the killer virus just a few days previous.

The victim, a dad-of-five and granddad-of-ten from the Sheephaven area of the Dublin town, is sadly missed by his wife Nell.

He died peacefully at Tara Winthrop Private Clinic after a short battle with the killer COVID-19 bug.

A notice on RIP.ie for John reads: "Beloved father-in-law of the late Phil; sadly missed by his loving wife Nell, sons Dominic, Jake and Sean, daughters Úna and Kate, son-in-law Eugene, daughters-in-law Lily, Aisling and Heidi, grandchildren Eoghan, Grainne, Aideen, Ellie, Sean, Jake, Katie, Aaron, Aoife and Aodhrai, his siblings Winnie, Michael and Bernadette, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
