Ireland Shorter childcare: daycare centers open to all children
India: the beginning of the end of containment announced for June
© REUTERS / Adnan Abidi India announced on Saturday a significant relaxation of the containment instituted to curb the epidemic of coronavirus, with the exception of regions where the number infections is still high. The movement of goods and people will be allowed on Monday June 1st across India. The second world population will also find its places of worship, restaurants and schools, gradually and according to the States.
After weeks of compulsory breaks due to the corona pandemic, it starts again for kindergarten children on Monday: The daycare centers in NRW open to all boys and girls - but with shorter childcare times. "For many parents, full employment is still not possible," said Irina Prüm, spokeswoman for the State Parents' Advisory Board of NRW, on Friday at the dpa request.
To make matters worse, many daycare centers also wanted to shorten their opening times accordingly. "This means that the parents lack any flexibility in terms of time," criticized Prüm. According to the requirements of the country, children should only be cared for 15, 25 or 35 hours by August 31 - instead of 25, 35 or 45 hours as before the Corona crisis. At the same time, the emergency care, which was available to parents with systemically relevant professions and working single parents for 45 hours a week, ends on June 8.
Schools closed in Aubervilliers: "How will our children make up for this lost education?"
© LP / H.H. Aubervilliers, this Wednesday. In the town, 14 school groups are due to reopen from Tuesday, June 9. In front of the town hall, there are less than a dozen parents of pupils who have found each other. "It is more difficult to mobilize when you no longer meet at the end of classes, especially since you cannot get the contacts of other families," regrets Aurélie.
Family Minister Joachim Stamp (FDP) emphasized that all sides should be ready to make concessions. "We know that the limited regular operation still requires improvisation." He asks employers for flexibility and consideration for parents. “We continue to monitor the infection situation every day and provide scientific support for the opening process. As soon as it is possible, we will go into full operation, ”said Stamp.
Nevertheless: All in all, it is nice that finally all children are allowed to go back to daycare, says parent representative Prüm. Since mid-March, entry into kindergartens has been banned apart from emergency care. On May 28, the doors were opened again for preschool children.
The daycare centers have prepared extensively for the return of the boys and girls on Monday. "The children come into the building through various entrances, everyone is measured for fever in the morning, they are not allowed to put lunch on their own plates - although that would be educationally important," says Ulrike Bauer, managing director of the Evangelical Day Care Association in Cologne, on the right bank of the Rhine operates eleven daycare centers. "These are considerable restrictions." Many children would probably need a while to get used to day-to-day nursery life and the new processes.
children ask - ministers answer: Exclusive conference with Gebauer and Stamp
© dpa NRW School Minister Yvonne Gebauer with Family Minister Joachim Stamp (r.) And Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann When can all children go back to school? Can we visit our grandparents? Can we cheer on our football club in the stadium again in the new season? What about my judo training? The Corona crisis demanded a lot from us all, especially children and adolescents had to cope with the fact that their entire everyday life changed from one day to the next.
In the daycare centers of the Fröbel Group, a nationwide large sponsor, the kindergarten teachers have rearranged a lot in the past few days and moved furniture. There is usually an open concept with different play or handicraft offers in different rooms, explains Werner Pieper, Managing Director of the Cologne-Rhein / Berg region with 19 day-care centers. "Now we have to form groups and have redesigned all rooms as group rooms."
It makes sense that the care times are reduced. "Some of the staff belonging to risk groups will continue to work in the home office." These employees offer digital language support for children, but were absent from on-site operations. The opening times of the facilities were reduced to eight hours a day. "It is difficult to combine the individual wishes of parents with it," says Pieper. "We'll first see how it works - then we'll see."
