A court in Istanbul sentenced "world" journalist Deniz Yücel to for almost two years and ten months in prison for propaganda for the banned Kurdish Workers' Party PKK. Yücel was acquitted of the charge of incitement and propaganda for the Gülen movement, said his lawyer, Veysel Ok.

The judgment was made in Yücel's absence. The journalist left Turkey after his release from prison in February 2018. Ok announced an appeal and said: "We do not accept this judgment." The verdict is not yet final.
