Passengers have been held at Glasgow Airport after a 'security alert' on an earlier inbound flight.

Operations and flights ground to a halt at the airport, once an incident was established on a plane travelling from London Gatwick to Glasgow.

Police Scotland confirmed the plane was met by emergency services on the runway, and was subsequently searched. Flights soon returned to normal.

Passengers understood to have been on the Easyjet flight have since taken to social media to say they are being held in the terminal at Glasgow Airport, after being disembarked, as they await further information.

Airport security refers to the techniques and methods used in an attempt to protect passengers , staff, aircraft, and airport property from accidental/malicious harm, crime, and other threats.

James Gale published a Tweet which read: "Only been waiting for over an hour for this 'security incident' and a further Tweet saying: "Just all been dumped in a room ... needing some information from everybody".

Meanwhile, Police Scotland advised the plane was searched by the emergency services, with a spokesman commenting: "10.25am it was reported, a security alert, on board the flight at Glasgow Airport. All the passengers and crew disembarked and the plane was searched."

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport confirmed to Paisley Daily Express: "There was a security alert on an inbound Easyjet flight from Gatwick.

"The aircraft landed at 10.25am, safely, without incident. It was met by emergency services. Operations were temporarily suspended. Incident was quickly stood down and the airport is operational again."

Easyjet also published a statement which advised: "EasyJet can confirm that passengers on flight EZY883 from London Gatwick to Glasgow was delayed disembarking on arrival in Glasgow purely as a precaution due to additional security checks. The passengers have been disembarked and taken into the terminal”.
