Johnson to face court over EU referendum 'misconduct'

Johnson to face court over EU referendum 'misconduct' Boris Johnson is to be summonsed to court to face accusations of misconduct in a public office, over comments he made during the 2016 EU referendum campaign. The bid to prosecute Mr Johnson was brought by Marcus Ball in the aftermath of the EU referendum. He claims the former foreign secretary misled the public during the campaign and again at the 2017 general election. "Democracy demands responsible and honest leadership from those in public office," Mr Ball said previously.

The action, brought by campaigner Marcus Ball, was over claims made during the referendum campaign that the EU receives £350m a week from the UK.

The former foreign secretary successfully challenged a summons for him to attend Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where Ball was attempting to prosecute him for three allegations of misconduct in public office.
