Bank Holiday weather: Don't get too excited!
Further blustery showers are forecast for the next few days across the UK and forecasters have dampened hopes of a Bank Holiday heatwave. This weekend will see more sunshine than in recent days with maximum temperatures set to be 21C (69F) in the South about around 19C (66F) in the North. Forecasters say there will be a "gradual improvement" in the weather over the next week but it is unlikely next weekend will see temperatures soaring.
Temperatures hit an August bank holiday high of 33.3C (92F) at Heathrow on Sunday and sunseekers can expect more of the same with a hot start to the week. Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said : “All in all, if you like the sunshine and the hot weather, then it is going to be a good day.”

Wales enjoyed a record 28.6C in Hawarden on Sunday when the top temperature in Northern Ireland was 24.2C at Stormont Castle.
Scotland’s top temperature was the 28.4C recorded at Bishopton near Glasgow on Sunday. Monday is not a bank holiday in Scotland.
Detained oil tanker at centre of US power struggle set to depart tonight, says Iran
The Iranian oil tanker which has been detained off Gibraltar since early last month is expected to depart this evening, Iran's ambassador to Britain has said. "With the arrival of two specialised engineering teams to Gibraltar... the vessel is expected to leave tonight," Hamid Baeidinejad tweeted. Travel chaos is expected this bank holiday weekend as more Britons than ever battle gridlocked roads and rail engineering works to enjoy what could be a record heatwave. A survey by tourism agency VisitEngland suggests 8.6 million Britons are planning an overnight trip in the UK this weekend. This is up from 7.3 million for the August bank holiday weekend in 2018 - and is the most since the research began in 2012.
