Why Storms Like Hurricane Dorian Are So Hard to Predict

Why Storms Like Hurricane Dorian Are So Hard to Predict When hurricanes form, meteorologists like me bring out beautiful maps with precise detail. The hurricane’s forecast track even has a line down the middle. And yet, as has been proven this week with Hurricane Dorian, there’s a whole lot about hurricane forecasting we still don’t know. The Windward Islands, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic were scared then spared. We’re not sure yet, but that’s probably going to be the case for Florida too. This is not a question of whether forecasters can work harder or put in more hours.

"We are embalming bodies so that we have more capacity as new bodies are brought in," he said. "We need to get coolers into Abaco and Grand Bahama, because we believe that we may not have the capacity to store the bodies."

Deadly Dorian pounds relentlessly at desperate Bahamas

Deadly Dorian pounds relentlessly at desperate Bahamas Hurricane Dorian came to a catastrophic daylong halt over the northwest Bahamas, flooding the islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama with walls of water that lapped into the second floors of buildings, trapped people in attics and drowned the Grand Bahama airport under 6 feet of water.

Hurricane Dorian pulverized the islands for two days, hurling catastrophic winds and relentless rain. It was the strongest storm ever to make landfall in the country. At least 20 people died in the northern Bahamas , according to a Washington Post report that cites Bahamian Minister of Health Duane Sands.
