Schoolgirl, 10, killed in suspected hit-and-run named by police
A 10-year-old girl who died following a suspected hit-and-run in Newcastle has been named by police as Melissa Tate. Melissa was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car on Hillsview Avenue in Kenton, Newcastle, on Wednesday evening, but was declared dead a day later.
Police have declared a major incident today after a double decker bus overturned.
The incident is believed to have happened just before 11am on the A385 between Totnes and Paignton in Devon.
It is as yet unclear how many people have been hurt.
Traffic website Inrix said: 'A385 Totnes Road closed in both directions.
'Slow traffic due to overturned double decker bus between Southfield (Paignton) and Saxon Meadow (Totnes).'
DCC Paul Netherton tweeted: 'Major incident declared in South Devon following a major traffic incident - all emergency services working together to respond.'
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: 'We have just been informed of a major incident following a collision involving a double-decker bus on the A385 between Totnes and Paignton, near to Lombcrombe Cross.
'Details are still emerging, in the meantime can we please avoid the area.
Closures are expected to remain.
Woman seriously injured after falling from fairground ride .
A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after falling from a fairground ride in East Yorkshire. Police believe she fell from one attraction on to the base of another at Hull Fair on Monday evening, with a teenage boy also hurt after being struck by the women as she fell.Both rides have been closed as officers and health and safety workers from Hull City Council investigate, while the woman continues to receive treatment after being taken to hospital.Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, and the teenager was not seriously hurt.
