Police have released an artistic impression of a man who fell from a Kenya Airways flight into a garden in Clapham, in a bid to identify him. 

The e-fit, made public by detectives at the Met Police, has been released alongside pictures of the backpack found in the landing gear compartment of the plane when it landed at Heathrow Airport.

Police were called shortly before 3.40pm on Sunday, June 30, to a residential address in Offerton Road, Clapham, to reports of a body discovered in the garden.

It is believed the unidentified man’s body landed just metres from a sunbather, after plummeting from the landing gear compartment of the plane, which had departed from Nairobi.

Efforts are still underway to identify the man, who is believed to have been in his 30s. Police have said that although he is believed to be Kenyan, they are keeping an open mind about his nationality. 

A post-mortem examination on July 3 gave his cause of death as multiple injuries. The death is not being treated as suspicious, and the body is currently being held at a mortuary whilst officers from the Metropolitan Police Central South Command Unit continue to investigate.

The strap of the bag had the distinctive lettering ‘MCA’ written onto it, and the bag also contained a small amount of Kenyan currency. The e-fit shows a logo on a top that the man had been wearing.

Detective sergeant Paul Graves, of the South Central Command Unit, said: “We have pursued a number of lines of inquiry in what has been a very sad incident to investigate.

“This man has a family somewhere who need to know what has happened to their loved one.

“Our investigation has included liaison with the authorities in Kenya, from where the flight took off, but so far our efforts to identify this man have proved fruitless.

“I hope by releasing this e-fit someone known to the deceased will recognise him and make contact.”
