The first death from coronavirus in Wales has been confirmed.

The patient, who had underlying health conditions, was 68 years old and was being treated at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

The Chief Medical Officer for Wales, Dr Frank Atherton, said: “It is with regret that today I am confirming a patient in Wales has sadly died after contracting Covid-19. I offer my sincere condolences to their family and friends and ask that their request for privacy is respected."

Thirty new cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in Wales which brings the overall total to 124.

Newport has the highest number of new cases (7), followed by Caerphilly (3), Cardiff (3) and Monmouthshire (2).

The only local authorities in Wales with no known cases are Denbighshire, Gwynedd and Merthyr Tydfil.

Churches ready for online Sunday services .
Amid coronavirus lockdowns, several churches will stream their services.The Church of England and Church of Scotland have now both banned mass worship, while Catholic churches are adopting a similar approach to encourage people to maintain social distance to slow the spread of the virus.
